Today we explored hibernating bears…

After reading the book “Good Night, Baby Bear” by Frank Asch, my students enjoyed crawling through the bear cave…

We covered a couple of child-sized tables with blankets to turn them into bear caves. We played a game at first. When I shouted “it is Spring Time!” the bears went through the cave. When I shouted “it is Winter Time!”, all the bears went into the cave to hibernate (sleep)…

The bears particularly liked to snore while they slept…

The children played in the caves most of the afternoon. While I read the book, the children took turns holding my teddy bears…

And we sang and danced to a teddy bear action song…

And a few of our children decided it would be more fun to use the ringer from our egg timers to wake up the bears…

It was a beary fun day!

We are “hibernating” our class bear on Thursday. We will make a “cave” with a box, paint, and batting for snow. Feed the bear ( fish crackers of course ) and then in she goes. We’ll hang the :shhhh , bear sleeping: sign on the front. Of course there are bear stories and bear games too. And I am incorporating this fun Large Cave idea too.
You are on the ball Lori – what great ideas! The kids will have so much fun:)
This is SO sweet! What a fun day at preschool, and a great way to learn.
