I have several projects that I need Easter grass for but instead of rushing to the store to stock up on some, I figured it would be just as easy for me to make my own.
This way I could also make the grass the same colors as my Easter eggs. That will be important for the activity I am planning to share with our preschoolers next week…
To make your own Easter grass, you will need construction paper (any color you like) and a paper shredder…
I used five sheets of each color of construction paper to make the amount of Easter grass shown below (which filled about half of a shoebox sized container)…
I borrowed the paper shredder from my husbands office. He hasn’t missed it yet:)
After you shred each color, empty the container into a basket then start the new color so the colors do not get all mixed up…
And there you have it – your very own home made Easter grass! I hope you like it!

That is an awesome idea!!! And I think that would be less messier, less tangley-er, and easier to manage and handle than the packaged plastic long strands bought at the store! Thanks for the idea!

I just found your blog and it’s terrific! After teaching preschoolers for over 30 years, I never stop collecting ideas and learning fun, new techniques. I am definitely going to use this great suggestion for making my own colored grass, as well as your Koolaid scented rice and the egg matching and color matching games for our program. Thanks so much.
