In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month, we spent the morning brushing teeth all around the classroom which meant we had some serious small motor strengthening going on too!
Mr. Big Mouth on the chalkboard needed lots of help keeping his teeth clean…
All day long, his teeth kept getting stains on them but fortunately, someone would stop by and clean them up with a good toothbrushing.
We tried a little toothbrush painting at the easel too! The children have been working with these paint tubes since day one of our school year so they were quite good add adding their own “toothpaste” paint to the paintbrush…
Sometimes toothpaste comes in more than one color so the children added two colors to their toothbrushes for a little bit of color mixing too…
We had some beautiful toothbrush artwork drying around the classroom…
Of course, the best practice comes with water so we set up our toothbrushing waterplay station for the day…
The children added real toothpaste to their brushes and then went to work brushing and rinsing those styrofoam teeth…
Just think of all the toothbrushing practice going on all around the classroom…
Now why is it important to brush our teeth? After all, Alligators never ever brush their teeth…
Well it turns out that food can stain the enamel on our teeth and can even give us cavities if we don’t brush…
That alligator may not care about brushing his teeth but we do!
And to help us remember to brush our teeth when we wake up the morning – we can sing our favorite Raffi song or Nancy Kopman Song!
