Make your Thanksgiving memorable and involve your children the preparations!
It’s Thanksgiving day and just as many of us are cooking up a big feast to eat at home with our families, my students cooked up their own Thanksgiving feast to serve up for our classroom family…
Sharing a Thanksgiving Story
We started our day by reading the story “Thanks for Thanksgiving” by Doris Barrette. Â This is a book about being thankful for the simple things in our every day lives and of course, it ends with the family enjoying a Thanksgiving Feast together which was what our classroom family was getting ready to do too…
Expressing Gratitude
After reading our story, the children helped me make a list of things they are thankful for…
Beginning Our Preparations
There were still some preparations to be made before we were ready to eat together. First, we had to prepare our place settings…
Around the room the children found a place that they would like to sit. We added their name to a square on the paper place mat and each child decorated their place with stickers and crayons…
Setting the Table
Once they had finished their place mat, then they were ready to set their plates, cups, napkins, and silverware on the table…
Collaborating in the Kitchen
And we still had a few food items to heat up or prepare including our green beans…
And our dinner rolls…
And our gravy for the turkey that was cooking in the oven…
Sharing a Thanksgiving Meal
While the last few items of food were heating up, the children went outside to play and then wash hands and then they came back inside to enjoy all of their work and a feast fit for the entire classroom family….
The children made their own fruit cornucopias too by filling a waffle cone with fruit and popcorn…
Enjoying Thanksgiving Festivities
The children did a wonderful job setting the tables, cooking food, and serving their plates and the best part was getting to sit down together and eat it all up! I am so thankful for these little ones…
I will be off spending the rest of the Thanksgiving holiday with my family. Â Mrs. Courtney, Mr. Hayden, and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your family too!
