Take learning outdoors and enjoy exploring nature with your preschoolers!
This is a simple idea for drawing children’s attention to the finer details of their outdoor environment…
The How-To
I made these simple nature windows by cutting the window frame from foam squares (try saying that three times) and stapling a straw on each window for a handle…
The children took their windows and went outdoors to see what they could find by looking through their frames…
Noticing and Wondering
By looking through the windows, the children noticed things that normally, they might have just walked right passed like the way the rocks are all different colors and what might be lurking down deep inside the holes of that drain…
And all the different kinds of flower petals…
And this child happened to notice a tiny caterpillar too…
The children walked around and really took a close look at nature…
Extending their Investigations
Some of the children brought a few of their findings back inside and we were able to use our nature walk as a way to talk more about the outdoor things we were able to see and to touch…
Building New Vocabulary
A simple but wonderful way to expand vocabulary and investigate nature…
