Inchworm sensory and magnet play in preschool

Continuing with our inchworm fun, the children really enjoyed this inchworm magnet and sensory play activity…

I used a paper shredder to make some green “grass” from construction paper.  I think I cut up about 5 sheets of paper to get all of this paper.  For the inchworms, Miss Abby helped me cut up some green pipe cleaners and then bend them up and down a bit…

Because the pipe cleaners are magnetic, we also set out our magnet wands.  Before the children came to school, Miss Abby hid the inchworms in the grass so the children could hunt for them. Again, we were focusing on how inchworms hide in the grass so the birds won’t eat them just like we did in the Inchworm Gluing and Painting activity we did yesterday…

The children used both their hands and the magnetic wands to search for and to move the inchworms from one tray to the other…

I overheard lots of fun conversations that included mommy inchworms looking for their baby inchworms. Our three year olds particularly liked this activity!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
