Pumpkin patch scavenger hunt in preschool

I would have loved to take my class out to the pumpkin patch but since this wasn’t something I was able to do, I decided to bring the pumpkin patch to the children instead…

I keep this large sheet of cardboard for making different scenes. I just paint over it when I want to create something new. Last time I used it for our Outdoor Cafe. To go with the pumpkin patch, I added a few pumpkins and gourds and a small bale of hay….

The children went on a pumpkin scavenger hunt, much like the leaf scavenger hunt we took the other day….

The children also “picked” a pumpkin from the patch to take home.  Our take-home pumpkins were really foam pumpkin shapes on a stick (I bought packages of foam pumpkin shapes from the Dollar Store)….

Some of our students thought it would be fun to have a pumpkin puppet show with their foam pumpkins…

It happened to rain on our pumpkin patch today as well – so we didn’t get to explore our pumpkin patch for very long but with the rain, it seemed almost like a day at a real pumpkin patch!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
