Through out our study of glass, we also explored the concept of stained glass both through a simple stained glass art process and this ready to go stained glass easel starter…
I will share with you are stained glass art process and the book we read along with it in my next post. To help introduce our stained glass art process and our stained glass easel starter, I brought with me a few small stained glass suncatchers my father had made a long time ago…
The children were able to see how the different colors of glass pieces were soldered together to make one design like a butterfly, apple, or flower….
To integrate the concept of stained glass designs throughout the classroom, I set up the easel with tape and washable window markers so the children could complete the stained glass effect as they stopped by throughout the morning…
We explored the concept of stained glass in many ways, including our sugar glass mosaics which I have already shared with you, so this was just a simple way to extend the idea in other parts of our classroom…
As the children made their way over to the easel, they would color in one or more open spaces in our stained glass tape design…
Gradually, more of the open spaces were filled in throughout the day…
By the end of the day, most of the open spaces in our stained glass easel were filled with color…
We left the stained glass easel up for several days and simply washed off the color each day for the children to start again as they wished…
In my next post, I will share with you our alternative stained glass art process so check back with me!
