A favorite book I’ve read with both my son and daughter over and over again for the past three years (on Wednesdays, no less) is “What Happens on Wednesdays” by Emily Jenkins. It’s about a preschooler who takes us through her day, marked by what happens after each event — after breakfast, after lunch, after school, etc., and also through the layout of her city neighborhood as she passess landmarks through her day. My children found this particularly intriguing because we don’t live near tall buildings surrounded by concrete. It was also fun to talk through what happens on our Wednesdays, because our schedule that day is a little different than on other days, and often we talk about how our book would read if we wrote our own “What Happens on Wednesdays”, which would be fun to write and illustrate (we just haven’t gotten that far I guess!). Anyway, a favorite book to which many preschool-age children can relate.

The children I’ve worked with absolutely love listening and reading along to the repetitive lines of Eric Carles’ From Head to Toe. They also love copying the actions in the book, which makes a very fun and interactive class!:)
