I loved reading this article. We also sometimes use a record player in our classroom, especially during the exercises in equilibrium around the circle. The children love this piece of equipment. Because the record player also contains our CD player, we do leave it in the classroom all the time.

this is just amazing…i never would have thought about a-a record player for exploration and b-let alone sharing it with my children at home, nevermind at school! you were very brave! ;) However, now that i see just how much fun, interest, & learning went on in your classroom with this, I just might have to see if family can ‘dig one up’ ‘from the attic’ or what-not! Also, just told my TEEN about this post & she said she herself has NEVER seen a record or a record player! This is gonna be great! wish me luck at finding one cuz a purchase is outta the question. EXCELLENT source of learning. thank you;)

I love using record players for spin art with my children. I put a circular piece of paper or coffee filter and give the children different paintbrushes and paint and let them experiment!

I was originally planning on using paint instead of markers but decided for our first go to just go with markers. You have inspired me to go back and give the paint a try!

Nice! I still have my record player in storage and you’ve inspired me to take it out. Do you know what the little plastic insert that goes into a 45 is called? I have to hunt for one so the kids can listen to these old books with record I have.

I’m not sure what they are called. My record player came with one and I was sure to remind my students to put it back in the “slot” when not in use!!

Thank you for sharing this information with us. I think it is a fun activity which helps the student to learn different things with the help of record player. And the activity in which it was taught how to handle a record player and its maintenance are really good for a child.

I use an old record,player in my classroom as a simplified spirograph. Children poke the spindle through the center of a paper plate and use markers to create designs as the turntable turns. Tey are mesmerized by it! We use a 3 minute timer that is turned over as each child starts his/her turn and when the time is up it is the next person’s turn.
