Rockin’ drawings

Our children created some rockin’ drawings out of just a few simple materials…

Yesterday I shared our colorful rocks with you.  Today we have another simple art activity using rocks and just a few other materials.  The children used sturdy pieces of cardboard, markers, and a hot glue gun to create these interesting pictures…

We challenged the children to incorporate these smooth, shiny river rocks into their drawings somehow.  As a class, we all brainstormed and discussed how we could turn our rocks into something different.  Deborah took their ideas and drew a few examples, just to help the children better understand the process…

The children began creating their pictures by choosing a few smooth stones to place on their cardboard…

Once the children had the idea of how they could create a picture out of their rocks, they began drawing on their rocks and creating their scenes on the cardboard…

When the children were finished with their drawings, it was time to make their rocks a permanent part of their picture.  They gently carried their picture over to our gluing station where we guided each child through the process of safely using a hot glue gun to glue their rocks onto their drawings…

Because we used markers and hot glue, the children’s drawings were ready to be sent home that day.  I hope their parents enjoyed their rockin’ creations as much as we did…
