After reading the book Ain’t Gonna Paint No More by Karen Beaumont, we were tempted to paint our whole bodies. We settled for painting designs on our arms instead…
Ain’t Gonna Paint No More is a wonderful picture book about a little boy who gets in trouble for painting on the walls of his house. His mother takes away all of his paint. He declares that he “Ain’t gonna paint no more!” But he simply can’t resist. Rather than painting the walls this time, he decides to paint on his body. This fun sing-song story has vivid, colorful illustrations. It is no stretch of the imagination to say that this book brought about an artistic frenzy in our classroom. It all began with painting on our arms…
The illustrations in this book are simply stunning! We read, or rather sang, our way through the book one time. Then we went back through the book to explore the pictures and to discover the story. We really took our time looking at the designs the little boy painted on his arms and legs. We noted the different types of lines. There were straight lines, curvy lines, and zigzag lines. There were also dots and circles…
To begin our art activity, the children were given the opportunity to trace around their hands and up their arms…
Once the children’s arms were traced onto their paper, they began painting their designs. The children used small brushes, cotton swabs, and BioColor paint to create vivid designs similar to those in the book. BioColor paint is available from Discount School Supply…
Each child took their time, creating lines and dots. The paintings were as unique as each child…
This child had the wonderful idea to turn his paint brush upside down to scratch a design into the paint, creating texture and movement…
A few of the children were so fascinated with the process that they asked if they could paint on their actual arms. Knowing that it would wash right off, how could we say no…
One little boy let his brother help paint his arms. He was so proud of his painted arms that he just couldn’t wait to show his mommy…
I can’t wait to share with you another wonderful art experience that was also inspired by this book…
