This month our Guidecraft Educators Group is reviewing and giving away this wonderful 100 piece set of Better Builders Magneatos…

My students have been exploring the magneatos for a few weeks now. At first, I set the magneatos out by our block center and the children explored the magneatos on the floor. The children were very excited to discover these new building materials and went to work right away trying to figure out what they could engineer with the materials….

Although our students found the magneatos interesting on the floor, we noticed that it was a little bit hard for the children to engineer something they could complete. It seemed their structures would fall over a bit too easy so a few days later, we moved the magneatos to a table and set them on top of one of our magnetic boards (you can read more about our DIY magnetic boards by clicking here). The magneatos came with this little red canvas basket to keep them in…

Mrs. Courtney sat down at the table with the magneatos and began modeling a few ideas of how to build with the magneatos. It wasn’t very long before several of our students wanted to join in and try a little engineering of their own…

The magnetic board gave the magneatos just the right surface for helping the pieces stand up better and the children were now easily engineering all kinds of designs and structures…

Both boys and girls were equally interested in the magneatos…

Some of our students spent almost their entire time in centers at the magneatos table exploring the different qualities and possible ways to build with the magneatos…

We have set the magneatos out in a variety of places in our classroom for the children to explore…

No matter how or where we set them up, there is always a child (or more) ready to see what else can be made or done with the magneatos…

Turn your chairs over and let them create sculptures on the metal legs…or use the metal boards that come with magnetic spelling sets.
Looks like alot of fun. Thanks for sharing.
