Journals
I purchased simple blank books for our journals. Mrs. Courtney added everyone’s name to a journal and they are all set to go…
Math Bags
For those of you who have been following my blog for some time, you probably know all about our math bags. We will be doing math bags again and I will share more on them as we go along. Story Telling Box
I also made myself two little story telling boxes. Well, they could also be called treasure boxes but I am calling them my story telling boxes for now because I want to really focus this year on helping my students express their own ideas, thoughts, and stories. I am hoping the story telling box will get us off to a good start…

Prepping for the first day of school is one of my favorite parts of the year. There’s just something about labeling, organizing and creating new things that puts a smile on my face. I LOVE your storytelling boxes and am excited to see what fun activities you have planned with them. Thanks for sharing!

I love your math bag idea. The story telling boxes are also really great. I bet the would work for story starters for older kids too. I may have to try it with my older reluctant writer.

The key is not so much introducing the story boxes but using the story boxes to introduce a concept or idea or object to the kids. Then you use the objects in the box to share an idea or a story about the objects. Sometimes, the story boxes are used to be a story starter but because we are just beginning our schoo year, I use them to facilitate discussion or to tell stories about the objects myself.
Would love to see the letter you send home with the math bags. I have bought the bags and am ready to try them out, but just not sure how to get the idea across to the parents. Thanks!

Where did you get your blank books for journals? I’ve decided to try journals in my classroom this year and I want to use unlined, simple books like yours.
