This is just a quick post to wish those of you getting ready to go back to preschool a VERY blessed year! It took me all day, but I am pretty much ready to go. I had a few things I still wanted to do but you know how that goes – it is a work in progress…

Tomorrow, I will share more about my completed classroom – but these are a few of the little things we have all set and ready to go…
Journals
I purchased simple blank books for our journals. Mrs. Courtney added everyone’s name to a journal and they are all set to go…

Math Bags
For those of you who have been following my blog for some time, you probably know all about our math bags. We will be doing math bags again and I will share more on them as we go along. If you want to read up on the previous year of math bags, you can start by clicking here: Math Bags. Mrs. Courtney added each child’s name to a math bag and my job was to prepare the parent note to go home with the math bags. Ummm, I will do that in the morning…

Story Telling Box
I also made myself two little story telling boxes. Well, they could also be called treasure boxes but I am calling them my story telling boxes for now because I want to really focus this year on helping my students express their own ideas, thoughts, and stories. I am hoping the story telling box will get us off to a good start…

Okay – like a said, this was a quick post to wish everyone well and share a short update! Have a great year in preschool!

Wishing you a super year!
Thanks for all the ideas and tips.
I appreciate all you do!
What wonderful materials! I bet the children will love learning in your room.
Hi to all , just want to tell u that i opened Facebook only to check what cool activities u have thank a lot
Hello.
Do you carry the idea of the math bags through out the year ? or do you have a time line for them and then proceed with another take home activity?
Thank you in advance, Rita
Prepping for the first day of school is one of my favorite parts of the year. There’s just something about labeling, organizing and creating new things that puts a smile on my face. I LOVE your storytelling boxes and am excited to see what fun activities you have planned with them. Thanks for sharing!
Best wishes for a great year Deborah!
I love your math bag idea. The story telling boxes are also really great. I bet the would work for story starters for older kids too. I may have to try it with my older reluctant writer.
I’m interested in the story boxes — can you explain how the were introduced to your students? Thanks!
The key is not so much introducing the story boxes but using the story boxes to introduce a concept or idea or object to the kids. Then you use the objects in the box to share an idea or a story about the objects. Sometimes, the story boxes are used to be a story starter but because we are just beginning our schoo year, I use them to facilitate discussion or to tell stories about the objects myself.
Would love to see the letter you send home with the math bags. I have bought the bags and am ready to try them out, but just not sure how to get the idea across to the parents. Thanks!
I love your math bag idea, I have one ready to go for my kiddos – we’ll be taking turns with one bag. I can’t wait to share it!
Where did you get your blank books for journals? I’ve decided to try journals in my classroom this year and I want to use unlined, simple books like yours.
Hi Mel,
I got my blank books from our local school supply store : United Arts and Education. But they are available here as well:Rectangle Blank Book for Young Authors (12-pack), Grades K – 3
