Father’s Day Book and gift linky

With Father’s day being right around the corner, we spent time reading about dads then made a little gift to take home to our dads…

The book I chose to share with my class is called “My Dad” by Anthony Brown. This is a very simple and fun book about all the amazing things this dad can do…

After reading our book, we explored a few items that we often associate with belonging to a dad…

And then we followed up our reading by making our dads a special gift…

I tried to find something the children could make pretty much all by themselves but in the end, Miss Abby and I did have to complete the gifts for the kids. We just ran out of time!

To make our father’s day gift, each child started by cutting little slits from the outside and stopping at the middle line of a paper plate…

Ideally, the slits should be evenly spaced apart around the paper plate but of course, the children cut as many slits as they wanted and however far apart they wanted…

Once they finished cutting around the edges of the paper plate, the children then painted the front and backs of their paper plates…

Once the plates were painted, we set them aside to dry. After the paper plates were dry, Miss Abby folded up and hot glued the edges of the plates together to create a bowl (this was the part that we didn’t have the kids to do on their own)…

We called our gifts “coin collectors” which are little bowls dads can use to put coins or other small items they keep in their pockets in at the end of a day…
