Flower challenge | Fine motor flower fun

The folks over at Tinkerlab have given us a new challenge and today’s challenge was to do something with flowers…

For our science center, I set out some flowers that were definitely looking at their very last days along with a few pairs of kid tweezers, some magnifying glasses, and cardboard squares with laminating paper in the center (sticky boards)…

The children used the tweezers to pluck the petals from the flowers…

In the past, as you can see in this post, we used the parts of our flowers to create a flower collage on our sticky boards…

But for this activity – the focus was pretty much only on exploring the flower petals. The children spread the flower petals that they plucked off of the stem onto the sticky boards to look at through their magnifying glasses…

The children also used the large stand-alone magnifier to take a closer look at their flower petals…

A great way to combine scientific discovery and a little fine motor fun!

Here’s another fun fine motor game you can play with your students

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
