Feather pen painting in preschool

This week we tried a little feather “pen” painting. I made my own feather pens by taping two or three feathers together so they would be a little sturdier and a little featherier..

Whenever we highlight a certain letter in circle time, I always like to follow up with an activity the children can do during center time. During circle time, we talked about our feathers using descriptive words like soft and fluffy and then we made simple patterns with the feathers…

At the table, the children found the feather pens waiting for them in different colors of paint…

The children dipped the ends of the feathers in the paint then made marks with the feather on their paper…

Some children liked to use the feathers to mix the colors and others liked making marks all over their paper. Each child had their own idea of what they liked to do…

Super simple to prepare and the children took their time exploring the feather painting/mark making process…

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
