Exploring measuring tools in preschool

We have been exploring the use of measuring and cooking tools in our prek class. The children loved using the measuring tools to scoop up dried beans…

Beans have a wonderful quality to them. They feel smooth to the touch which invites hands on exploration…

As the children explored the beans, we were able to talk more about our measuring tools which included measuring cups, measuring spoons, and measuring scales…

Later in the day, we played a short measuring tool sorting game. We sorted our measuring tools by size and used terms like 1/2 cup and 1/3 cup and 1/4 cup…

Then we dumped them all into the water table for a little more measuring cup play…

It was quite the day for exploring our measuring tools!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
