We made apple trees in preschool

At least once a week, I try to throw in some art activities that we can use to decorate our classroom. We will be having a fall festival pretty soon so I want to have some children’s artwork that celebrate fall up for the occasion…

This week, we made apple trees. We started by ripping paper bags for our tree trunks and gluing them on the paper…

Then we added our tree tops.  I would have had the children tear their tree tops too, but today, the focus was on using glue bottles more than anything else in this process so I just gave them some quick tree tops cut out from green construction paper.  The children used glue bottles to add glue. We talked about adding long lines of glue or little dots of glue rather than big puddles of glue…

Once the children added the glue, we talked about turning the paper over and rubbing their paper on the back so the glue sticks really well…

Once we had our treetops and trunks all glued down, we painted on apples with a large pom-pom dipped in red paint that I had saved from the other day

Some of apple trees landed up-side down on our paper and some of the tree trunks were glued on with the grocery bag lettering on the outside – don’t you just love it!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
