Teach Preschool in the news: Tools for waterplay

I was in the news again and this time my special guest was Addison! Addison helped me share a few fun tools you can use for water play…

Noodles

Foam noodles are often found in the swimming pool but they can also be used for other types of play and learning. Next time you are at pool, try cutting up some noodles and doing these activities. Addison shows how to thread the noodles to make a noodle necklace…

Recently, my nephew and I made shapes with foam noodles in my driveway. Here he is jumping over the noodles…

And here, Wy is using the noodles to make form shapes in the driveway. Bambi (the dog is not helping:)…

I have seen many ideas from my fellow bloggers on what you can do with foam noodles. The Body Smart Blog has some ideas and you can also view the ideas I have collected on Pinterest!

Paintbrushes and Buckets

Another simple tool for waterplay is to set out a bucket of water and a paint brush…

Wy also liked painting water on his feet and legs in the hot sun…

Water Wall

Another tool for waterplay is a water wall.  I have seen some wonderful ideas posted on water walls and wanted to try making my own. I am going to post a second post that talks about my water wall and share links to other water walls too but in the mean time – here is a photo of my water wall in action – can you see the blue water? You can view the water wall works on my news segment below as well…

Foam shapes and water

In the news segment, Addison demonstrates how to dip foam shapes in water and put them on a small window. This was an idea shared by The Imagination Tree. I didn’t have a window with me in the Fox 59 News Studio so I used a small piece of clear plexiglass just to get the idea across. I also painted the back side of my water wall with water and the foam shapes stick nicely there too….

If you are viewing this post by email or reader, you may need to come to the blog or click on the link to view the Fox 59 Waterplay tools in action.

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
