Teach Preschool in the news: exploring plants and nature

My little friend, Tristan was kind enough to join me on Indiana Fox 59 Morning News this week to explore a few ideas we can do with plants….

For this segment, I brought the last of my flowers saved from Mother’s Day and a few plants I had set aside…

Tristan showed how to take apart flowers and stick them on the clear contact paper canvas which you can read more about here…

Tristan also helped me demonstrate how you can save the flowers from a bouquet and use them as a paint brush which you canĀ read more about here

Once we were all finished with our segment, Tristan and his dad took a few extra minutes to explore the television studio…

And before we left for the day, I added another sheet of clear contact paper to the front of our flower canvas so Tristan could take it home to share with his mom…

Thanks to my little friend Tristan and his parents for being such good sports and helping me share some simple ideas that preschoolers can explore…

What a great team you and Tristan make. Perfect viewing for mums, dads and carers with ideas that we can enjoy.

I love the idea of using clear contact paper to make the flower collage! I used to use a lot of it in my classroom and have about 6 rolls on hand. My girls love collecting “nature” as they call it. I think we will have to make one!

Great flower ideas, Deborah. Have you ever tried pounding the flowers (pretty side down) onto muslin? The children enjoy this activity using rubber mallots…Is Tristan a student of yours or family friend…He is so adorable!

I haven’t tried that Barbara! I have a few flowers left – I think I will try it before I throw them out. Tristan is a family friend:)

What a great project! I’m wondering if you’ll continue posting through the summer? I’m definitely going to need some ideas!!

Yes – I plan to post through the summer. I may cut back little but I will decide when I get into the summer – but either way, I will be posting.
