Fun with color words in preschool

Through out the school year the children have been exploring all of their colors and color words. Last week, the children reviewed many of their colors through different kinds of paint and sensory materials…

Some of the children finger painted their color words…

Others sprinkled some colored salt on their color words…

The salt was turned orange by mixing a small amount of orange food color into the salt then stirring and stirring until all the salt turned orange…

Many different color words were provided throughout the week for the children to explore…

And with each color word, a different kind of material was used to decorate or paint the word…

Like paint, glue, salt, paper, tissue paper, and so on…

The color word canvas was nice and large so the children had plenty of room to enjoy the creative process…

This class even tried a little seasoned salt – boy did it smell strong…

I didn’t catch all the different color words but this at least gives you the idea of what the children did to review and explore their color words this past week.

I love this idea and I did something similar as the child did with the season salt :) I used cinnamon, thyme, and nutmeg and we sprinkled on pictures made from glue…but I plan on doing this one soon! Will have to share the pictures with you :)

I bet it made the whole room smell wonderful! A great way to add a sensory experience!
