Butterfly sensory bags for preschoolers

I read this terrific idea over at Crafty-Crafted on how to make butterfly goody bags! As soon as I saw them, I started thinking of other ways you could use this idea….

When I see an idea that I love, I always want to see what else can be done with it….

I tried this several ways and each time, I learned something new so here is what I found worked best. Start by putting small drops of paint into a baggie (quart sized baggies or larger is best)…

My advice is not to use too much paint as you want to see the designs and color mixing as you go along…

Then I wrapped a length of tape across both edges of the baggie. I wanted to keep the edges straight for my butterfly wings plus I wanted to seal the open end of the baggie with the tape…

Then lay the baggie down flat and use your fingers to mix the colors of paint and spread them all around the inside of the baggie…

Any kind of packing tape or masking tape will do. I found this colorful packing tape at Walmart and have been saving it for awhile now…

Once all the paint is spread all about, then you are ready to twist a chenille stem (pipe cleaner) around the middle to make the butterfly antennae…

And there you have it! From butterfly goody bags to butterfly sensory bags!

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
