Preschool post card exchange!

Our kindergarten class is participating in a postcard exchange that was put together by my friends on Teach Preschool on Facebook!

PLEASE NOTE:  THE POST CARD EXCHANGE FOR 2011- 2012 SCHOOL YEAR IS NO LONGER OPEN TO NEW PARTICIPANTS.  CHECK BACK AGAIN NEXT YEAR:) THANKS SO MUCH!

The children have been sending and receiving postcards from Australia, Canada, and all parts of the United States….

Each time they receive a postcard, they go to their map and identify the location from where the postcard came from.

Amy, one of the organizers of the exchange, sent me this photo of her bulletin board with the postcards on it…

This has been a terrific way for our students to explore a little geography and learn some first hand information about other people from around the world.

I even received one postcard for me at my house!! It came all the way from Adelaide, South Australia with a beautiful handwritten note about that beautiful city!

I have had several request to continue the post card exchange for the whole school year but just putting it together in the first place was not a simple task:)  So after giving this some thought as to the best way to do this again, I am leaning towards having a new post card exchange that starts in January. I need to get through the holidays before adding anything more on my plate!

How the postcard exchange works…

  1. All participating schools are divided up into groups of five.
  2. Each group is assigned another group to send the postcards to each week.
  3. You will be sending out about 5 postcards a week for as long as there are groups. So if we have 10 groups, then you will be sending out 5 postcards a week for 10 weeks.
  4. You should only sign up if you are truly prepared to participate fully so it is more successful for everyone involved.
  5. You may write what you want on the card but general information about your city or state or your school is sufficient.
  6. You can send a letter or picture in place of a postcard if you wish.

Time Line

  • Sign up for the exchange will be open until January 1st, 2011.
  • All participants will receive an email by January 8th with specific information on groups and any other information needed to get started.
  • It is important to remember that your school name and mailing address will be shared with those who enter this postcard exchange.

Every time I think I know everything I need to know about teaching young children, God says, "Hold on a minute!" and gives me a new challenge.

Let me tell ya...

With each new challenge that you overcome, you will find yourself better equipped and more passionate about teaching young children.

God didn't call wimps to lead, teach, or care for His children. Nope, he has high expectations, so get ready. You will have to give your very best but after teaching for over 30 years, I can tell you that it is a wonderful and rewarding journey.

Whenever your calling feels hard, just remember, 'He who began a good work in you (and in the children you serve) will be faithful to complete it.'
