Living in farm country, we learn lots about vegetables that grow in the garden. Where possible, I try to bring in vegetables from the garden like snap peas so the children can explore and snap away.
At school, I came across this entry for our State Fair Vegetable Craft contest….
To make a pea pod with your preschooler start by painting the back of a paper plate the color green (or both sides might be better)…
After the paint dries, fold the painted paper plate in half…
Staple the corner folded edge of each side of the paper plate so it will remain folded but leave an opening for the peas on top.
Now that you have the pod, it is time to make the peas! There are many ways to add peas so I will show you three ideas…
Roll up some play dough balls to make your peas and add inside the pod…
Blow up little green balloons to use for peas in the pod…
Scrunch up green construction paper to add for peas in the pod…
The fun part about creating is that you can use what you have available and make the art experience work for the needs and development of your students.
What I like:
I like the idea of tearing paper and scrunching it up to add a little more opportunity to work on fine motor strength and development. I can also see using the scrunched up paper games as well.
I like the idea of letting the children make peas with play dough as another activity for the children to do.
